WITA (“WITA,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit trade association, organized under Section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code, providing a neutral, non-partisan forum for the discussion of international trade policy. We respect the privacy of everyone who visits our website, joins as a member, attends our events, and engages with our research and programs.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through wita.org (the “Site”), how we use it, when we share it, and what choices you have.
When this policy applies
This policy applies when you:
- Browse our website
- Join, renew, or manage a WITA membership
- Register for an event, conference, webinar, or WITA Academy program
- Sign up for our newsletter or other communications
- Contact us by phone, mail, email, webform, or social media
- Apply for employment, an internship, or a fellowship with WITA
- Use the WITA Career Center, as a job seeker or as an employer posting positions
- Sponsor or exhibit at a WITA event
It also applies to personal information you provide to us by telephone, email, mail, text, or in response to a solicitation.
Our website and programs are intended for trade, government, and business professionals and are not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information online from children under the age of 13. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected personal information online from a child under 13, we will delete it.
Information you provide to us
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:
- Name, employer or organization, job title, mailing address, email address, and telephone number
- Membership records, including membership category, dues payment history, and renewal dates
- Event and program registration details, including any accessibility or dietary needs you choose to share
- Newsletter and communication preferences
- Information you include when you ask a question, submit a comment, report a problem, or respond to a survey
- Application materials if you apply for employment, an internship, or a fellowship
- Job seeker profile information and resumes, or job posting and company information, submitted through the WITA Career Center
- Sponsorship, exhibitor, or advertising inquiries
- Photographs, video, and biographical information for speakers, panelists, and program participants, used to promote and document our events and programs
We do not collect or store payment card numbers or bank account numbers. Membership dues, event registration fees, and sponsorship payments are processed by a third-party payment processor. We receive a record of your payment and the contact information necessary to process your membership or registration, issue a receipt, and follow up with you.
Information collected automatically
When you visit our website, we may automatically collect technical information, including your browser type, device type, operating system, referring page, the pages you view, and the time you spend on them.
We use Google Analytics to understand how our website is used and to improve it.

A cookie is a small file that a website stores on your device. Cookies and similar technologies such as tags and pixels allow a website to function properly, remember your preferences, and measure how the site is used.

The analytics cookies we use are set by Google Analytics. The cookie named _ga and cookies beginning with _ga_ distinguish visitors and maintain session information. We have configured Google Analytics to retain this data for fourteen months.
Your choices.
Optional cookies do not run until you accept them. You may accept or decline each optional category when you first visit our website, and you may change your choice at any time using the Cookie Settings link in our website footer. Most web browsers also allow you to block or delete cookies. If you block strictly necessary cookies, portions of our website, including membership account access and event registration, may not work properly.
We do not place advertising or remarketing cookies on our website.
How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- Process membership dues, renewals, and event or sponsorship payments
- Register you for events, conferences, and WITA Academy programs and communicate related details
- Send newsletters, event invitations, research publications, and updates when you have chosen to receive them
- Maintain and administer our membership directory and relationships with members, sponsors, and partners
- Operate the WITA Career Center, including connecting job seekers with employers
- Evaluate applications for employment, internships, and fellowships
- Support our advocacy, research, and educational programming on international trade policy
- Improve our website, communications, and programs
- Respond to your questions and requests
- Meet our legal, tax, accounting, and audit compliance obligations
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not rent, exchange, or trade our membership or mailing lists.
We share personal information only in the following circumstances:
- Service providers. We use vendors to operate our website, process payments, send email and text communications, maintain our membership database, and administer events. They receive only the information necessary to perform their services for us and are prohibited from using it for any other purpose.
- Member and event directories. We maintain a membership directory that may be visible to other WITA members, and we may share attendee lists with event co-hosts or sponsors. If you prefer that your information be limited in these listings, contact us at [email protected].
- Career Center. If you submit a job seeker profile or apply to a position through the WITA Career Center, your information may be shared with the employer who posted the listing.
- Public recognition. We may recognize members, sponsors, and donors by name on our website, in event programs, and in annual reports. If you prefer not to be listed, tell us at [email protected] and we will honor that request.
- At your request. For example, when you ask us to connect you with a committee, program, or staff member.
- Legal requirements. We may disclose information when required by law, regulation, subpoena, court order, or other legal process, and where we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of WITA, our members, our staff, or the public.
How long we keep information
We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy and to meet our legal, tax, accounting, and reporting obligations. Website analytics data is retained for fourteen months.
Security
We maintain a current SSL/TLS certificate on all pages that collect personal information, and we use commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect the information in our care. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and while we work to protect your information, we cannot guarantee the security of information transmitted to or from our website.
Your choices and rights
You may contact us at any time to:
- Request access to the personal information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate
- Ask us to delete your information, subject to records we are required to retain
- Ask how your information is used
- Unsubscribe from newsletter, event, or marketing communications
- Ask that your name or company be limited or withheld from our membership directory or public recognition
To unsubscribe from email, you may also use the unsubscribe link in any message we send. We will honor your request. We may still contact you regarding a membership you hold, an event you have registered for, or an application you have submitted.

Our website may contain links to other websites, including those of our members, sponsors, program partners, payment processor, and social media platforms. We do not control those websites and are not responsible for their content or privacy practices, and the inclusion of a link does not imply our endorsement of the linked site. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any linked site before providing them with information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. If we make a material change to how we use or share personal information, we will provide notice before the change takes effect.
