A request has been made to “carve out” part of November’s deal so that it apples even if Britain leaves without an agreement.
Britain is asking the EU for an agreement that would protect the rights of both sides’ citizens in the event of a no-deal Brexit.
Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay made the request in a letter to Brussels’ chief negotiator, Michel Barnier.
Sky sources say Mr Barclay wants to carve out the topic from the divorce deal agreed in November and make it apply in case the UK leaves without an agreement.
