WITA Webinar: Back-to-Normal Barometer

Rich Thau and Gina Derickson of Engagious, Jon Last of the Sports and Leisure Research Group, and Ron Bonjean of ROKK Solutions are conducting a twice-monthly series of travel, leisure, and sports-related surveys and in-depth interviews called the “Back-to-Normal Barometer.” It includes findings about people’s willingness to re-engage in normal activities, such as stay in a hotel, fly on a plane, visit a retail store, go on a cruise, etc.; what conditions must be met before they’d be willing to re-engage; and (assuming the necessary assurances were made) how soon they would next return. They are also studying the employer-employee relationship, particularly how to manage employees’ expectations in returning to their offices, and the attendant liability concerns.

Rich Thau is the president& Co-founder of Engagious. His firm specializes in message testing and message refinement for major trade associations, advocacy groups, and large corporations. With Jon Last and Ron Bonjean, Rich is the co-creator of the Back-to-Normal Barometer, a semi-monthly public opinion project gauging Americans’ receptivity to resuming normal activities in the wake of the pandemic.

Jon Last is the president of the Sports and Leisure Research Group. He has conducted high-profile public opinion research in the sports, travel, and leisure sectors over the past three decades. His firm has done work for all the major sports leagues as well as 30 professional sports teams. He is also a past president of the Marketing Research Association.

Ron Bonjean is a partner at ROKK Solutions. He has more than 25 years of public affairs and crisis communications experience, and has managed some of the most significant business and policy debates affecting the lives of millions of Americans. He also remains the first person to serve as the lead spokesman in both the House of Representatives and the United States Senate.

Gina Derickson is the research director at Engagious. Earlier in her career she was a qualitative research director at Ipsos, and before that a senior market research manager at Procter & Gamble.
