Ratification of the Withdrawal Agreement is by no means certain, raising the risk that the UK will crash out of the EU on 29 March with no deal. Andrew Duff continues to criticise British politicians and media for ignorance and prejudice about Europe.
The Withdrawal Agreement and accompanying Political Declaration are viable and deserve more consideration than they are getting from all sides of the House of Commons. The prime minister can only rescue the situation if she stops trying to placate the Brexiteers and starts trying to appeal to Remainers.
There are no serious Plans B readily available and a second Brexit referendum would endanger Britain’s parliamentary democracy. Instead, the pro-European majority of MPs should demand, as the price for their support for the deal, that the next Queen’s Speech prepares the ground for a new government to apply to rejoin the EU.
