Sugar mills in India, the world’s second-biggest producer of the sweetener, have asked the government to continue providing subsidy to help them export about 6m tons next year, according to Abinash Verma, director general of the Indian Sugar Mills Association. “We are seeking an export program, with the required subsidy, to bridge the gap between domestic prices and global prices,” Verma said by phone
