In Brexit there are countless deadlines but few deals.
U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen set another target date for progress in Brexit talks, as they offered a gloomy assessment of progress following a marathon dinner meeting.
The pair agreed at the working dinner in Brussels that negotiations would continue and a “firm decision” about the future of the talks should be taken by Sunday, according to a senior Downing Street official.
The two sides were so far apart that separate statements were released following the discussion, and the U.K. words were not even from the prime minister himself. It is a long way from the optimistic joint statement that was released when Wednesday’s head-to-head, the first since January, was scheduled.
