Digital freedom has been vital for minimizing economic disruptions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. As the pandemic has circumscribed people’s physical contact and movement, the exchange of information, products, and other services through digital connections has been amplified. While some policymakers may use the pandemic as a platform for digital protectionism, the United States should continue to support digital freedom, as it promotes economic dynamism that is vital for reducing harm, and for speeding up the recovery of the American economy caused by massive lockdown measures to contain the spread of COVID-19.
