Cross-party Brexit talks appeared close to collapse, after Labour’s chief negotiator warned that more than half of his party’s MPs would not back any deal unless it included a second “confirmatory” referendum.
Keir Starmer, shadow Brexit secretary, said that between 120 and 150 of 246 Labour MPs would oppose any deal that did not come with a second EU vote attached. The proposal has been strongly criticised by Prime Minister Theresa May and would be opposed by many Tory MPs.
