Title of Position: Manager of International Affairs

Supervisor’s Title: Vice President of International Affairs

Summary:

The Manager of International Affairs will support the Vice President of International Affairs in the development and implementation of policies that facilitate U.S. pork exports and support the international competitive standing of U.S. pork producers.

A background in international affairs is required. Experience in international trade policy is preferred. The Manager will have excellent communication and writing skills, an ability to synthesize policy and research information for different audiences and strong data presentation skills. The Manager will be motivated to initiate projects and be able to work as a member of a team to develop and implement policy initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and analyze issues important to the U.S. pork industry’s trade objectives
  • Conduct market research projects
  • Contribute to and develop written communication documents e.g. reports, memos, backgrounders, issue papers, talking points and factsheets
  • Supports development and implementation of NPPC positions on international issues
  • Prepare and deliver presentations
  • Represent NPPC at industry meetings, including allied industries
  • Outreach and interface with NPPC stakeholders
  • Attend Congressional hearings, briefings, think tank discussions and other events
  • Support and build coalitions
  • Monitor industry transportation and logistics issues that might limit pork exports
  • Plan and coordinate domestic and international meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Skills/Relevant Experience:

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to make persuasive and convincing presentations
  • Be highly self-motivated, work independently, highly detailed, and exercise sound judgement
  • Have an ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, team-oriented, work environment with NPPC members and staff
  • An understanding of legislative and political processes
  • Strong data analysis and computing skills

Education and/or Experience: Minimum of B.A./B.S. college degree. A graduate degree in a related field and/or 2-3 years of related experience is a plus.

Travel: Approximately 30% travel domestically and internationally. Must have valid driver’s license, have or be able to acquire a passport and good driving record.

Location: The position is based in Washington, D.C.
